Adams Peak and Native Tribes Tour Route on a Sri Lanka Map
Sri Pada pilgrimage tour, Native Tribes (08 Days Itinerary)
- Day 01 – Collection at Colombo airport and transfer to Kandy for rest and recuperation.
- Day 02 – Kandy city sightseeing tour including Temple of Buddha’s Tooth and the Peradenya Botanical gardens. Market shopping opportunities for semi-precious gems, batiks, handicrafts and garments. 5pm Kandy cultural show (1 hour fire/dance).
- Day 03 – We drive through breathtaking scenery along the Victoria reservoir to visit the special Reserve of the island’s ancient tribal peoples known as “The Vedda”. Opportunity for interaction including purchase of their souvenir handicrafts and to Adam’s Peak hike observe their unchanged centuries old lifestyle in the jungle. Continue via Badulla to Ella for 2 overnights.
- Day 04 – A day at leisure in the charming village of Ella with its stunning views. Opportunities to trek to Lipton’s seat, bathe under dramatic waterfalls and walk up Little Adam’s peak. A Tea factory visit is also possible.
- Day 05 – Take the scenic train to Nuwara Eliya – the British tea planters colonial “capital” – for sightseeing and lunch. Later in the afternoon drive through more lovely scenery to the base camp village in preparation for the climb of Sri Pada pilgrimage tour. Early night.
- Day 06 – 1am start on the 4,800 step Adam’s Peak hike to be in time to see the huge “footprint” and the shadow pyramid cast at sunrise. This is one of the world’s great pilgrimage climbs and all devout Sri Lankans make the ascent. Return to the hotel for late breakfast and to catch up on sleep, take a swim or have a massage for weary limbs!
- Day 07 – We continue to nearby Kitulgala where the epic “Bridge over the river Kwai” was filmed. This is an activity centre for white water rafting, mountain bike riding, canoeing/kayaking, canyoning, abseiling and nature Trails. Overnight.
- Day 08 – We drive back to Colombo/Negombo or the airport. Or your visit can be extended for relaxation at one of the island’s many beach Resorts.

(NB. The official climbing season for Adam’s Peak sunrise is between the December and April full moons, when the steps are lit all night and shops/cafes are open along the way. Full moon times are best avoided as up to 500,00 people can gather up there!! The ascent is also possible during the remainder of the year by torchlight with a hired trekker – but weather is less reliable.)
